Course Description

In today's digitally-driven world, technology plays an integral role in our daily lives, often blurring the lines between healthy and unhealthy use. This talk offers therapists a comprehensive understanding of the psychological impact of technology on mental health, particularly in children and adolescents. We will explore evidence-based strategies for promoting intentional and balanced technology use, delve into clinical tools for addressing media addiction, and discuss the importance of fostering digital literacy and critical thinking. Attendees will leave equipped with practical interventions to support clients in developing a healthier relationship with technology, ultimately enhancing their well-being and family dynamics.

Educational Goals

This program will increase understanding the impact of technology on mental health. Participants will learn strategies for promoting intentional technology use. The training will cover clinical tools to address media addiction, and will foster digital literacy and critical thinking.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  1. State at least 4 reasons that technology overuse affects psychological and emotional health, particularly of children and adolescents.
  2. Apply at least 3 evidence-based techniques to help clients develop a healthier relationship with technology, including mindfulness techniques, role playing and activity scheduling.
  3. Identify at least 3 practical tools for treating media addiction in their clients, with a focus on empowering families to foster balanced and intentional technology use within the home environment.
  4. Describe at least 3 techniques for helping clients develop digital literacy skills, enabling them to make more informed and intentional choices in their technology use.
