Children experience a broad range of feelings that can often feel overwhelming to them as they usually do not have the language to describe what they are feeling. As “behavior is communication” the goal is to understand what feeling state is under the behavior, so the child can learn to describe their feelings and decrease the behavior. Children are provided choices for play based activities that meet their temperament and sensory needs in order to process stress/trauma that they have experienced. Books about family changes, loss, anxiety etc help to normalize children’s feelings about their own experiences.
