Course Description
This is the recorded version of this training.
Expert Barbara Griswold, LMFT will teach how to write brief notes that satisfy legal, ethical, and insurance expectations, in order to gain confidence in the event a records request comes in. She will outline new documentation requirements for telehealth. Barbara will introduce several note templates. The course will include sample progress notes with pointers for what “good” progress notes look like.

Identify how vague, illegible, or notes written long after the session can harm therapists and clients.

Identify 11 common health plan documentation requirements.

Define the "medical necessity criteria" used by health plans to approve ongoing treatment, and how to document this.

Demonstrate the use of SOAP and other note templates

Identify legal and ethical issues related to altering notes or writing late notes

Participants will receive 3 Law & Ethics CEs after watching this course in full and completing a Speaker Evaluation and short post-test.
